Guide to What’s New at Walt Disney World for 2020

Here’s a list of new rides, attractions, and shows, as well as other featured park events, that will be at Walt Disney World in 2020. The information presented here was posted by The Walt Disney Company on either their official blog or website. These are not rumors, but confirmed information. This page will be updated if details change.

Hollywood Studios

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway opens March 4, 2020. The ride is based on cartoon shorts that have come out recently on the Disney Channel. You can also watch them on YouTube now. According to Disney, the ride has “unexpected twists, slapstick gags and mind-boggling transformations at every turn, as Mickey and Minnie try to save the day.”

Mickey Shorts Theater also opens in March of 2020. The theater will show an original cartoon short in the same style as the cartoons from the Disney Channel. Disney also promises the theater will have spots for special photo ops.


Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run are two new rides in Galaxy’s Edge land. Both opened in 2019. Smugglers Run is an interactive screen ride that allows guests to be a pilot, gunner, or engineer on the Millenium Falcon. Rise of the Resistance is an immersive experience with lifesize sets.




Epcot

Three movies debut in Epcot on January 17, 2020. This is also the start date of the International Festival of the Arts at Epcot. The festival runs from January 17 - February 24, 2020.


Awesome Planet is a new 10-minute film at the Land pavilion. It features in-theater effects, nature photography, and space segments with an environmental message.


Beauty and the Beast Sing Along is a 10-minute movie in the France pavilion. It features music that fans can sing along with and is narrated by Angela Landsbury, the actress who portrayed Mrs. Potts in the film. The Sing Along alternates with showings of an upgraded 4K version of Impressions de France.


Canada Far and Wide in Circle-Vision 360 is an updated version of the classic Epcot Circle-Vision 360 which starred Martin Short. The new version stars canadian actors Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy and a new musical score composed by Andrew Lockington.


HarmonioUS is a fireworks and laser light show set to music that will replace the current show, Epcot Forever. The show takes place on the World Showcase lagoon and features pyrotechnics, lasers, lights, moving water fountains, and floating set pieces. The show, which celebrates Disney music, starts around 9:30 pm and lasts about 10 minutes. The pyrotechnics are visible from anywhere around the World Showcase Lagoon.


Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is a trackless ride that opens in the France pavilion Epcot in summer of 2020. The attraction is based on the film “Ratatouille” by the Disney subsidiary Pixar Animation Studio. According to Disney, the ride will imagine what happens if guests shrink down to the size of Remy and go on a culinary adventure with the chef rat.






Magic Kingdom

Happily Ever After grand finale fireworks display will continue to be shown through 2020 in the evenings before park closing.The show lasts 18 minutes and features music, pyrotechnics, lasers, and projection mapping technology.




Move It! Shake It! MousekeDance It! Street Party is a parade and dance party in front of Cinderella Castle. The experience lasts about 35 minutes and has characters and cast members dancing in the streets and on floats, It runs twice daily at 10:30 am and 1:30 pm.


TRON is a new steel roller coaster being built in Tomorrowland. It will remain under construction through 2020 and will not launch until 2021.





Animal Kingdom

Disney hasn’t announced anything new for Animal Kingdom in 2020. Check back for any updates.





Disney Springs

Drawn to Life is a show that features Cirque du Soleil’s world famous acrobatics and Disney animation. It tells the story of a little girl’s journey through a world of drawings. This collaboration between Disney’s Imagineers, Disney’s animation studio, and Cirque du Soleil opens on March 20, 2020 in Disney Springs. Tickets are already on sale.
